Mercedes received reports about rearview camera images staying blank after vehicles were shifted into reverse. In response, Mercedes opened an investigation in July 2020, initially finding no specific issues.

However, new complaints arising during the investigation showed that rearview camera images would disappear and reappear. Engineers determined that the systems may not start depending on certain conditions, and that interruptions to operations on the system’s hard drive could cause problems when the system restarts.

Notifications will be mailed July 13. Vehicle owners can have their multimedia system software updated at the dealership or through over-the-air updates.
