Honda Recalls More Than 708,000 Vehicles With Faulty Denso Fuel Pumps

Honda is recalling more than 708,000 Honda and Acura vehicles with defective Denso fuel pumps that cause stalling and non-starting.

The impellers could crack, absorb too much fuel and strike the body of the pump. As a result, engines stall, or vehicles may not start. The affected vehicles include:

• 2019–2020 Honda Accord
• 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid
• 2019 Honda Civic Coupe and Si Coupe
• 2019–2020 Honda Civic Hatchback
• 2019 Honda Civic Sedan and Si Sedan
• 2019 Honda Civic Type R
• 2018–2019 Honda CR-V
• 2019 Honda Fit
• 2019 Honda HR-V
• 2019–2020 Honda Insight
• 2019 Honda Odyssey
• 2019 Honda Passport
• 2019 Honda Pilot
• 2019 Honda Ridgeline
• 2019 Acura ILX
• 2019–2020 Acura MDX
• 2019–2020 Acura MDX Hybrid
• 2019–2020 Acura RDX
• 2019–2020 Acura TLX

Honda issued a global recall of roughly 1.4 million vehicles with Denso fuel pumps in June 2020. This recall came after Denso recalled more than 2 million pumps in vehicles from several automakers. Honda received 583 warranty claims and 166 field reports pertaining to the Denso fuel pumps as of March 19, 2021. The recall itself affects 628,124 vehicles in the United States and more than 80,000 vehicles in Canada.

Honda will notify affected Honda and Acura owners at the end of May 2021. Owners may be eligible for reimbursements for money spent on fuel pump repairs.
